Tobias Pfeil was born 02.01.1992 in Oslo. He sang in school choirs and played piano before abandoning classical training when he became obsessed with The Beatles at the age of ten. After that there was no way back... He started playing the guitar, learning by listening to his dad's vinyl collection. Inspired by John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and free jazz from the sixties Tobias picked up the tenor saxophone at the age of 18, simultaneously immersing himself in art film, beat literature, abstract painting and extreme music. At the age of 19 he served in the Norwegian King's Guards Music division as a saxophonist and big band leader, before attending the jazz course at Sund Folk High School in 2012 where he dug deeper into improvisation, free jazz and songwriting. In 2013 he moved to Denmark and attended the Music Performance BA programme at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. He explored improvisation, conceptual composition and contemporary music production with Jenny Hval, Jakob Bro, Carsten Dahl, Lotte Anker and Søren Kjærgaard. Currently Tobias lives in Oslo and works as a freelancer associated with several projects. He performs with Heartbreak Satellite, Natalie Sandtorv, Tuvaband and as his alter ego Tobi Duchampe, and composes for film, theatre, performance art projects and art installations. He has performed with artists such as Thurston Moore, Sidiki Camara, Hanne Boel, Kresten Osgood, Søren Kjærgaard, The Entrepreneurs and Ole Mofjell.
